A young child is in hospital after being pulled from a pool in Surrey, B.C. Monday, less than 24 hours after a toddler tragically drowned in the same city.

The BC Ambulance Service confirms that emergency responders were called to the 9600-block of 129 Street just past noon and found the victim in serious condition.

The child was taken to BC Children’s Hospital by the infant transport team.

The age of the child has not been confirmed, though reports suggest the victim is about two years old. The owner of the home told CTV News that the young girl slipped under the pool cover but bystanders were able to pull her out and perform CPR. The child and her parents are said to be visitors from Calgary.

On Sunday night, a 20-month-old toddler was pronounced dead and his grandmother put on life support after they were discovered floating unconscious in an outdoor pool in the 10500-block of 152nd Street.

Mounties believe the child fell into the pool at around 9 p.m. and the 51-year-old woman, a non-swimmer, jumped in to try and save him.

Their names have not been released at the request of their family. The BC Coroners Services is investigating the toddler’s death.
