Police issued a public warning late Friday, just hours after the body of a woman was found in a wooded area near the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

"What we have is a homicide,'' said RCMP Cpl. Peter Thiessen, adding that the victim was an adult female.

Thiessen said the body was discovered on a nature trail near the UBC endowment lands, a mostly park-like area to the east of the main campus.

He did not reveal the age or gender of the body and says he doesn't know how long it was there before it was discovered.

A forensic identification unit and police dog services were called to the scene, and Thiessen says the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team will also investigate.
