Mounties are investigating after a Coqutilam, B.C., woman was killed in a house fire early Monday morning, and her son is being sought as a person of interest.

Fire fighters arrived at a home in the 2500-block of Burian Drive at around 4:30 a.m. to find it engulfed in flames.

Crews searched the property and found an unconscious female occupant. She was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators say they want to speak to the woman's son, and are in the process of tracking him down. Neighbours told CTV News he is 23-year-old Blake Salemink, and that he has a history of mental health problems.

Coquitlam RCMP say they attended the house several times in recent weeks, and once under the Mental Health Act, but would not elaborate.

No word yet on how the fire started. Fire Chief Tony Delmonico said investigators were on scene and expect to have the cause determined by Wednesday at the latest.

Delmonico said the fire was extinguished quickly, but the home was heavily damaged.
