A wildfire that has triggered an evacuation order near Lillooet, B.C., continues to grow.
Kim Steinbart, Fire Information Officer, says the Tyaughton Lake Fire near the community of Gold Bridge, now covers 1,400 acres and is being fought by 49 firefighters.
"They are assisted by heavy machinery, six helicopters, as needed," Steinbart said.
"We are bringing in an instant management team who will look at the specifics of how to deal with this fire. We will be mobilizing more resources to this area as well."
No buildings have been lost but telephone and hydro lines have burned, cutting communications to several properties including the Tyax Resort, Chilcotin Holidays and Spruce Lake Wilderness Adventures.
A long dry spring is being blamed for causing fire havoc in B.C.'s forests. There are currently 14 active fires larger than 25 acres in the province.
West of Alexis Creek, crews have fully contained a 223 acre blaze near Chezacut Road.
Meanwhile, an evacuation order has been downgraded to an alert near Buffalo Creek - northeast of 100 Mile House - where workers contained a 370 acre blaze.
Steinbart says the fire situation across British Columbia may worsen if dry and warm conditions continue.
"We expect to expand these conditions over the weekend as well. We are asking the public to help prevent these person-caused fires - these fires are preventable," she said.
