Mounties say they have identified the two drivers killed in a motorcycle-involved crash in Pitt Meadows on Saturday afternoon.

The crash happened at around 2 p.m. when a motorcycle heading west on Lougheed Highway toward Kennedy Road slammed into the drivers-side door of a pickup truck.

The collision instantly killed both drivers. Neither vehicle was carrying passengers.

Ridge Meadows RCMP have identified the driver of the truck as an 80-year-old Pitt Meadows man and the motorcyclist as a 36-year-old man from North Vancouver.

Insp. Stephan Drolet told CTV News the cause of the crash has not been determined, but speed appears to be a factor.

"With the nice weather, motorcyclists are out again so we invite the public to be careful," Drolet said. "Make sure you're seen, that your lights are on, slow down and look around."

The weather was clear and the roads were dry at the time of the accident.

The highway was closed between Harris Road and Kennedy Road until about 6:30 p.m. as the RCMP Traffic Services unit and the Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Service conducted an investigation.

The deceased's' names have not been released.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251.
