Saturday night was a scary one for roughly 100 families in Vernon, who were ordered to evacuate their homes because of a forest fire.

The blaze started late in the evening near the Adventure Bay area on the west side of Okanagan Lake.

As of 11 a.m. Sunday, firefighters had successfully contained the fire, and the evacuation order was rescinded. No structures were affected by the fire, and no one was injured.

It’s still unknown how the fire began.

Though the fires were under control Sunday, they were not yet extinguished. Vernon Fire Rescue Services said helicopters were being used for water drops to aid in fighting the fire in challenging terrain.

The area was placed under a 24-hour fire watch as families returned to their homes.
