The Vancouver Police Department is warning the public of a convicted sex offender who plans to move to Vancouver following his release from prison.

Wesley Johnathan Wheaton "poses a risk of significant harm to the safety of females, both children and adults, in the city of Vancouver," the VPD said in a statement Thursday.

Wheaton was convicted of forcible rape, kidnapping and robbery in 1985. He was later convicted of sex crimes involving a child under 14 years of age while on parole in 1993. Those crimes took place in California.

Wheaton is 44 years old, First Nations, 5-9, 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Wheaton has to abide by the following rules:

• no contact with anyone under the age of 19

• not to possess or consume alcohol or any drug or substance listed in the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

• not to enter any licensed premise where alcohol is the primary commodity for sale

• no contact, directly or indirectly, with anyone under the age of 16

• not to go to any park, public swimming area, daycare centre, school ground, playground or any place where children under the age of 16 can reasonably be expected to be present

Anyone witnessing Wheaton in violation of any of these conditions is asked to call 911.
