Vancouver police are preparing for the Canucks' playoff run, warning fans Monday to keep their drinking and horn-honking under control.
"I think we're all hoping for a long playoff run," Const. Lindsey Houghton told reporters at a press conference.
"We want people to come down, we want you to celebrate, but we want you to do it responsibly."
He said that police would consider asking liquor stores to shut down early, as they did several times during the Olympics, if public drunkenness becomes a problem.
"Leave the liquor in your cupboards or in the fridge," Houghton said, adding that extra officers will be out in the Granville Street entertainment district to monitor the situation.
"Anytime you have tens -- sometimes hundreds -- of thousands of people out on the street, if the majority of them are drinking or some of them are severely intoxicated, unfortunate things can happen."
He also cautioned fans to refrain from honking their car horns in celebration late at night.
"We just want people to remember that you have to be respectful of the neighbourhoods you are celebrating in," Houghton said.
The Canucks enter the first round of the playoffs on Thursday, when they face off against the Los Angeles Kings at GM Place.
