Two people were stabbed to death at a McDonald's restaurant in Richmond late Friday night, authorities said.

At about 11:00 p.m., Richmond RCMP responded to a call at the McDonald's on Granville and No. 3 Road. They found two people -- one man and one woman -- suffering from stab-related injuries. They died at the scene.

Workers and customers gave police a description of a suspect. A man was arrested less than two blocks away and is currently being detained.

Police have not released the identities of the two victims.

"I came outside to see what's going on. Police were here and they blocked off all the entrances to the McDonald's. They started cordonning off all the streets -- pretty awful," said Joel Neighbour, who lives nearby.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating.

Crime scene technicians gathered evidence in and around the restaurant well into the night. It is expected that they will be on scene through Saturday, police said.
