Police in B.C. are hoping to turn up the heat on vehicle thieves by baiting them with special cars.
Since a new Canada-wide auto theft law kicked in last week, officers arrested two men with the tactic.
Sergeant Gord Elias of IMPACT -- the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team -- says a bait car was stolen in Kelowna on Sunday, and another suspect was taken into custody after stealing a bait car in Oceanside on Monday.
He says it's the first strike for both men, who may want to think twice before attempting such a theft again.
The new law means anyone convicted of stealing a vehicle three times or more will face a mandatory minimum sentence of six months in jail.
Meanwhile, Solicitor General Shirley Bond says five people on B.C.'s Top 10 Most Wanted Car Thieves list have now been arrested, and police need the public's help in nabbing the rest.
