Vancouver police are investigating the third murder of a senior citizen in the city in less than a month.

Police found the body of a 65-year-old New Westminster man in an east Vancouver apartment in the 2100-block of Cassiar St. Thursday morning.

Const. Tim Fanning says a woman who is an acquaintance of the victim called from the unit at about 7:15 a.m. She was brought in and questioned, but later released.

The man's identity and cause of death have not been released.

Investigators and forensic teams were back at the apartment Friday canvassing for witnesses as well as trying to gather evidence.

No arrests have been made. Fanning says there is no danger to the public, but admits that it's strange all three of Metro Vancouver's homicides in 2009 have all been senior citizens.

"It is very unusual typically we are giving out stories of homicides of young men being shot in the street," he told CTV.

On January 8, 77-year-old Carmelo Dibella was found murdered in his apartment at 16 E. Hastings

On January 11, a 65-year-old man was found dead in the 900-block of Richards St.
