One of the 492 Tamil migrants who entered Canada onboard the MV Sun Sea will remain in custody after a government representative alleged the man may have committed war crimes.
The migrant -- who arrived in B.C. in August and can't be named under a publication ban -- appeared at a detention review in a Vancouver-area jail this morning.
An officer for the Canada Border Services Agency said the man was deemed inadmissible to this country.
The officer referred to two sections of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act that would make the man ineligible, one of which says a foreign national is inadmissible if they violated the War Crimes Act.
The second section says a person may be deemed inadmissible if they engaged in terrorism or the subversion of a democratic government.
It's unclear what crime the man is alleged to have committed. He's was ordered detained until a full admissibility hearing can be held in two weeks.
