One man was killed and another was injured in what officials suspect is a targeted attack in Surrey Saturday night.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 14300 block of 90A Avenue just before 10:30 p.m. where they found two victims in their late 20s with gunshot wounds.

Neighbour Jas Muker, who has lived in the area for 24 years, said he heard six to eight gunshots while he was watching television.

"It's really shocking," he said. "We talked [to our nieghbours] they said 'Wow, this thing happened in our neighbourhood?'"

Muker said he heard one of the victim's father yelling on the phone to first responders.

"Because they want some information, he goes 'I'm not f----ing giving you the information! Come down, send the ambulance then I give you the information!' Then police...cars came," Muker said.

Both men were taken to the hospital for medical treatment. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said one man succumbed to his injuries and the other sustained survivable injuries. Officers are canvassing the neighbourhood and continuing to speak to witnesses.

"While we believe this to be a targeted shooting, police are working on confirming the motive for this attack and finding who is responsible," said IHIT Sgt. Jennifer Pound in a release.

The two men have been identified and police are looking to notify the next-of-kin before releasing the identity of the deceased man.

At least 44 shooting have occurred in Surrey this year and authorities are working to address the violence.

"We're pulling out everything we can to prosecute these guys," Public Safety Minister Mike Morris said in June.

Anyone with information is asked to call IHIT at 1-877-551-4448, or call Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
