A section of B.C.’s Highway 15 has closed following a crash that killed a person Christmas Day.

According to a release issued by the Surrey Police Service Wednesday afternoon, a pickup truck and a taxi minivan collided at the intersection of Highway 15 and Highway 10 in Surrey around 11:15 a.m. Christmas Day morning.

A woman passenger died at the scene as a result of the crash, the release said. The driver of one vehicle that struck the other remained at the scene and is cooperating with police, it added.

“The investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision,” police said.

Motorists taking to the roads on Christmas Day are advised to prepare for several road closures near the intersection of Highways 15 and 10, with Highway 10 completely blocked for eastbound traffic.

Road closures and traffic diversions are expected to last several hours as the investigation into the crash continues, police said.
