Mounties have arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with a disturbing attack on a Surrey senior in her own home last month.

The RCMP said the suspect, a resident of Langley, is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault, forcible confinement, break and enter, robbery with a firearm, and disguise with intent.

“I would like to thank the victim, her family, and the entire community for their tremendous support and assistance in advancing this investigation,” Chief Supt. Bill Fordy said in a statement.

“This type of crime is repulsive.”

The suspect, who is not known to police, is being held in custody pending an appearance before a Justice of the Peace.

Mounties said no more information is being released as the investigation is ongoing.

The 70-year-old victim was attacked on Aug. 12 by an armed man who burst into her home, restrained her and requested cash and valuables.

She was beaten and sexually assaulted before her assailant fled.

Police said the victim suffered significant but non-life threatening injuries.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP detachment at 604-599-0502, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS if they wish to remain anonymous.
