Heavy snow is making the morning commute miserable for Fraser Valley residents -- but those in Metro Vancouver, the southern Gulf Islands and Victoria have dodged the storm as Environment Canada has ended a snowfall warning for all but the eastern sections of the Fraser Valley.

But with a further 10 centimetres of snow expected today east of Abbotsford, all public schools have been cancelled in Chilliwack, Abbotsford and Mission, and all campuses of the University of the Fraser Valley are closed.

Further east, a travel advisory is in effect for the Coquihalla Highway because of blowing snow and almost zero visibility.

Highway 3 from Sparwood east to the Alberta boundary is closed until further notice because of treacherous conditions and the deep freeze continues across north-central B.C.

Thanks to the windchill, temperatures from the North Coast, through the Chilcotin and Prince George to Fort St. John could feel as cold as -45, at least until the end of the week.
