The RCMP has identified a 29-year-old Maple Ridge man who was shot in the chest on Thursday night and later and died in hospital. But his named has not been released.

The man was shot in a residential neighbourhood at about 8:00 p.m. He then drove himself to the hospital. He was known to police, who are still trying to determine what led to the shooting.

"It certainly has the signature of being targeted,'' said Cpl. Dale Carr of the RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. But he said investigators are not yet at the point yet where they can confirm that it was indeed a targeted hit.

Investigators were back in the neighbourhood Friday where they suspect the shooting occurred, looking for witnesses.
