An elderly man has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being run over by a semi-tractor trailer while on a motorized scooter in Surrey Friday afternoon.

The man was hit by the semi as the truck made a right turn around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of 128 Street and 82 Avenue, police say.

The scooter came up inside of the trailer unit, and was run over by the rear wheels as the semi went a bit wide on the turn.

Images from the scene show a crushed blue scooter and a pair of men’s shoes underneath the wheels of the truck.

Police say the man may lose both of his legs. His age and identity has not yet been released.

The road was closed for hours while RCMP surveyed the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
