The old parenting adage about not taking candy from strangers is as true as ever in Kelowna, where Mounties recently seized a bag of root beer-flavoured sweets spiked with drugs.

Officers confiscated the candies from a man in a Ford Mustang on Aug. 31 after receiving reports of a possible drug transaction near Richter Street and Leon Avenue.

“The report indicated that the driver was selling drugs to young kids from his vehicle,” Const. Kris Clark said in a statement.

A sample of the sweets was analyzed in a lab and determined to contain tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly known as THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.

The man, whose name has not been released, faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
