The BC Lions extend their winning streak to seven on Saturday, appearing very comfortable for their second game in the newly-renovated BC Place stadium – but the same couldn't be said for some fans.
The facility's retractable roof was closed as the Lions defeated the Calgary Stampeders 33-31, but for a half hour of the game spectator Andrew Greig says Vancouver's rainy fall weather found its way inside.
"There were actually quite a few drops in front of us," Greig said. "The fans in front actually had to move seats because it was that bad."
BC Place general manager Howard Crosley said there were eight workers on the roof Saturday night trying to plug the leaks, but they couldn't get to them all.
"Unfortunately the roof is still in the final stages of being sealed," Crosley said. "We'll be doing that work probably for the next week and half yet."
Officials blame the delay on last month's rain, and say crews were forced to put in temporary seals for the first Lions game at the end of September.
They say if crews can get a window of good weather, they can replace the temporary seals with permanent ones.
The leaky roof isn't the first problem to plague the stadium since its $563-million renovation.
Fans at the stadium's reopening reported service problems, including 45-minute lineups, but the issues were resolved by the first Vancouver Whitecaps game two days later.
