A court date has been delayed for the man behind the wheel of a pickup truck that slammed into a Maple Ridge, B.C., sushi restaurant, killing two people.
Fifty-one-year-old Brian Irving - charged with two counts of second-degree murder and six of attempted murder -- was supposed to appear in court Tuesday morning.
Integrated Homicide Investigation Team spokesman Dale Carr said the court date has been postponed to tomorrow at the earliest.
Carr says Irving has been hospitalized for an undisclosed but not life-threatening illness.
Nineteen-year-old SFU university student Maija-Liisa Lisa Corbet and 46-year-old Hyeshim Oh were killed in Thursday night's crash. Six others were injured.
Oh was an employee of the restaurant, but wasn't working there at the time. The mother was picking up food for her family.
Irving, a former senior conductor for CP Rail, is not known to police and doesn't have a criminal history.
Police say Irving did not know the victims and no alcohol-related charges are expected.
