The search for a cougar seen stalking animals in a Surrey, B.C. park Saturday morning has been suspended, and Mounties are urging the public to be cautious.

The cougar was reported shortly after 11 a.m. in Cougar Creek Park, located at 68th Avenue and 121 Street.

"It was apparently stalking birds in the water, ducks, and doing what it naturally does. It wasn't paying any attention to humans or domestic animals," Staff Sgt. Bruce Anderson said.

Mounties and conservation officers closed the park while they conducted a search, but found no sign of the cougar.

Anderson said the park has been reopened, but asked the public to be extra diligent and keep their eyes open while walking in the area.

No injuries or attacks on pets have been reported.
