Mounties in Langley, B.C., are investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the city.

Police say a pickup truck pulled up behind a brown Kia that was stopped at a red light on 201A Street shortly after 12:30 a.m. Insp. Davis Wendell said gunfire then "rained" from the pickup to the Kia until the victim vehicle fled east on the Fraser Highway. The pickup drove west.

Wendell said no one was injured in the shooting, and the victims, who are cooperating with the investigation, are not known to police.

"At this point we do not believe that it was specifically a targeted act," he said.

The number of shots fired has not been released, but police recovered several shell casings from the scene. The victim vehicle has been taken in for examination by RCMP forensic personnel.

Officers will be canvassing the area on Sunday and searching for any surveillance cameras that may have captured the shooting, Wendell said.

Police have not yet released any suspect descriptions.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
