RCMP have arrested another one of their most wanted suspected car thieves, bringing the total arrests to six in just two weeks.
Bailey Daines, 48, was arrested in Castlegar, B.C. on Tuesday night for allegedly driving while impaired, in addition to his outstanding Langley warrant.
Last week, Deanna Austin, 38, turned herself in to Richmond RCMP on outstanding warrants from Surrey and Richmond.
Police released a "top ten" most wanted car thieves list on April 2nd in an effort to capture more suspects involved in the theft of thousands of vehicles each year.
The four remaining suspects are:
- Jason Daniel Marshall - 37 years
- Darlene Marie Pearl Landry - 27 years
- Brent Joseph Smith - 37 years
- Reuben Edward Weiner - 19 years
Police launched their Auto Crime Enforcement campaign earlier this month, saying although statistics have shown an overall decrease in car theft, Surrey remains the so-called 'car theft capital' of the province.
The Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team (IMPACT) was formed by various police forces from around the province and says it has reduced overall auto theft by 38 per cent in the past five years.
IMPACT started the highly successful Bait Car program, as well as an educational video to target high school students, and uses Automatic Licence Plate Recognition technology (ALPR) to search for stolen vehicles.
Police continue to ask anyone with information to contact local police or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
