Princess of Pot Jodie Emery says she’s planning a special homecoming as her husband Marc is released from U.S. prison.
The pot advocate finishes his sentence Wednesday, and will be sent to a detention centre in Louisiana to complete paperwork before his release.
Jodie Emery said it’s still unclear when he will actually get back across the border back into Canada.
“It could be weeks, possibly months at the worst, but maybe it will be in time for our eight-year wedding anniversary on the 23rd,” she told CTV Morning Live.
Emery was extradited to Seattle in 2010 and was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to selling marijuana seeds.
His release coincides with retailers in Washington State being able to sell marijuana for recreational use.
The Emerys have been involved with Colorado and Washington’s campaigns to make marijuana legal.
But while the U.S. is progressing, Jodie says that Canada has “taken a step backwards.”
“We have a lot of work to do. We just have a government in Canada that isn’t allowing us to reform our laws and save money and lives,” she said.
“We need a new federal government in Canada and that’s what we’ll be campaigning for.”
The Emerys plan to back Justin Trudeau in the next federal election, as the party examines backing legalizing marijuana in Canada.
Jodie Emery says she and her husband are planning a 30-city advocacy speaking tour across Canada, as well as engagements in Spain, Austria and Uruguay.
