The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called to East Vancouver after a police-involved shooting early Sunday morning.

Police say a 47-year-old man was shot near the intersection of Gore and Cordova streets after encountering a pair of officers on patrol.

"That interaction turned violent when the male produced a weapon, which caused one of the two police officer to draw his gun and fire an undetermined amount of rounds," said Cpl. Dale Carr.

A knife was recovered at the scene.

The man was rushed to hospital, where he remained listed in critical but stable condition Sunday night after undergoing surgery.

The officers involved had 18 months and 19 years experience, respectively.

Investigators are conducting interviews with roughly a dozen people who were in the area at the time of the incident.
