A drug bust at a downtown Prince George, B.C. home has resulted in the seizure of 705 marijuana plants and a loaded 12-gauge shot gun, according to police.

Police raided the residence in the 900-block of Patricia Boulevard on Aug. 1 and found $70,000 worth of pot plants in the garage. A 30-year-old male resident of Prince George well-known to police was arrested without incident. A 2001 Chevrolet SUV was also seized.

RCMP North District Const. Lesley Smith said a connection with organized crime is suspected.

“That’s what happens when you deal with organized crime, these individuals are armed with weapons,” said Smith. “Now that entire community -- that residential area -- is at risk because there are people who live there who bring that threat of violence to what could be a safe neighbourhood.”

“The seizure of this firearm means one less weapon on the street that could hurt or kill someone.”

The suspect is facing charges of production of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, as well as firearms related charges. He will make his first court appearance on Dec. 5.
