A New Westminster man who thought he was chatting with a 13-year-old girl has been charged with child luring after the "teen" turned out to be an undercover police officer.

Brandon Parisien, 27, was arrested at his home on Wednesday after trying to arrange a sexual rendezvous with a young girl he had met in a chatroom. The supposed girl was actually an officer with the RCMP's child exploitation unit.

"This is yet another reminder for parents and children to be aware that these predators are online and will not hesitate to engage children in conversation quickly leading to sexual exploitation," RCMP Cpl. Mat Van Laer said in a release.

During the arrest, police seized Parisien's computer, which they say contained pornographic images and videos of children. He now faces two charges of child luring and one of possessing child pornography.

Parisien has been released from custody on conditions, including that he stay away from children under the age of 16. Parisien lives alone and does not have children.

His next court appearance is scheduled for June 13.
