Hockey fans will get a chance to own a piece of Olympic history starting Tuesday as several NHL stars auction off their Olympic jerseys on eBay to raise funds for Haiti relief efforts.
"Hockey for Haiti," a joint initiative between the National Hockey League Players' Association and World Vision, will sell 140 jerseys worn by players during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games, including Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin and Patrick Kane.
Several Vancouver Canucks players, including Roberto Luongo, Henrik Sedin and Christian Ehrhoff, will also have their Olympic jerseys auctioned off on eBay.
The Hockey For Haiti jersey sale begins Tuesday with Team Canada jerseys from the likes of Crosby, Luongo, and Jonathan Toews up on the auction block. Team USA gear will be auctioned off May 18. Other jerseys and paraphernalia will be sold on the following four Tuesdays.
The Hockey For Haiti program was spearheaded by Georges Laraque, a former NHL player whose parents were born in Haiti. Proceeds from the sale of Olympic hockey jerseys will go to World Vision.
The first Hockey for Haiti eBay auction will take place on Tuesday at 7 p.m. EST.
