A ctvbc.ca story about the plight of child mothers in Uganda has been shortlisted for a national award recognizing media coverage of the sexual exploitation of children.
Darcy Wintonyk's June 30 story "Ugandan child mothers pick up the pieces," is one of 17 print articles nominated for a Beyond Borders Media Award.
Wintonyk's story explored the lives of young women who were kidnapped as girls by rebels from the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda, raped by soldiers and then subsequently forced to bear the children of their captors.
The Beyond Borders awards ceremony has been scheduled for Nov. 19 in Winnipeg.
