The body of a yet-unidentified man was found by the side of a rural road in Surrey Monday morning, marking the city’s fifth homicide this month.

The deceased was discovered at around 9:20 a.m. in a grassy area in the 12300-block of Colebrook Road, not far from the Delta Golf Course.

Surrey Mounties secured the scene and called in the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team after determining the victim was met with foul play.

Few other details have been released.

“We are in the early stages of this investigation and we are working to find out if this latest homicide is related to gang activity,” Cpl. Adam MacIntosh said in a statement.

The cause of death is being withheld.

Earlier this month, four men between the ages of 27 and 33 were murdered in a spate of shootings that all took place within 48 hours.

Manjot Dhillon was gunned down the evening of Jan. 13, followed by Edward McGiveron and Geordie Carlow hours later. The morning of Jan. 15, Manjinder Hairan was killed in what police believe was a gang hit.
