The mother of three children slain in Merritt, B.C. last month has broken her silence.

Darcie Clarke has sent a letter of thanks to the community expressing her gratitude for the outpouring of support since last month's murder of her three children.

In a letter published Friday in the Merritt Herald newspaper, Clarke thanks everyone "who have shared in our pain of the horrendous tragedy of our three little angels, Kaitlynne, Max, and Cordon Schoenborn."

More than 300 Merritt community members attended a public memorial for the children. An emotional candlelight vigil was also held in their honour.

In the letter, Clarke continued, "We have received so much support, generosity and prayers that we wish to thank each and every person that has pulled together in our greatest time of need and grief."

This is the first public statement from Clarke since her children's deaths.

In the days following their murder, Clarke was being treated in hospital, and has remained in seclusion with her mother.

Allan Schoenborn has been charged with three counts of first degree murder in connection to the deaths of his children.

The 40-year-old was the subject of a massive province-wide manhunt.

Local bushman Kim Robinson found Schoenborn badly dehydrated and frostbitten in the bushes just kilometres from Merritt's town centre 10 days after his disappearance.

At the time of his children's deaths, Schoenborn was under a court order restricting him from seeing Clarke. He was also out on bail for allegedly threatening a student at his daughter's elementary school.
