MERRITT, B.C. - A public service for the three Merritt youngsters found murdered in their home will be held this weekend in the Interior B.C. ranching community.

The Merritt Ministerial Association will conduct a public service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 27 at the Merritt Civic Centre.

A private memorial service was held over the weekend for the immediate family of 10-year-old Kaitlynne, eight-year-old Max and five-year-old Cordon Schoenborn, whose bodies were found by their mother on April 6.

Allan Schoenborn, the children's father, remains in custody pending a May 2 court date, after being found last Wednesday in the hills above Merritt.

When he was found, Schoenborn was cold and hungry and has required hospital treatment to recover from what is believed to have been 10 full days without shelter in near freezing temperatures.

Some residents have wondered aloud why there wasn't a sweeping search launched immediately following the discovery of the children's bodies, but the RCMP says it would be next to impossible to guess which way Schoenborn went in the dense wilderness.
