Vancouver police are asking more witnesses to come forward to help them secure charges in one of two shocking attacks on elderly women committed late last month.

A 33-year-old man has already been arrested and is facing charges in one incident, where a 70-year-old woman in a wheelchair was punched in the face near Broadway and Granville Street on May 26.

But investigators said they haven’t obtained enough evidence to support charges in another attack that happened just two hours earlier a short distance away.

Both are believed to have been committed at random by the same suspect.

In the earlier attack, an 84-year-old woman was kicked off her walker near Broadway and Ash Street, causing her to break her elbow.

Surveillance video, released for the first time Thursday, shows the assault near a fountain in an open courtyard, but the quality is very poor and doesn’t identify the suspect.

Police are asking any witnesses who haven’t spoken with them, including one who might have the first name Amber, to come forward with any information they have.

People who saw the assault or spotted the suspect are asked to call the Vancouver Police Department at 604-717-2541.
