Someone who sent five obscene and threatening letters to elementary schools in Kamloops, B.C., last week sent two more this week that were even more graphic and disturbing, police said Thursday.

The explicit letters targeting young girls have left parents on edge. And one therapist told CTV News Thursday he worries that the letter writer may want to act out on the fantasies.

RCMP released a photograph of an envelope that had contained one of the letters, hoping someone might recognize the handwriting on it.

The envelope was addressed to Parkcrest Elementary School.

RCMP officials say they are examining the letters for fingerprints or DNA.

In the meantime, parents should be vigilant, said RCMP spokeswoman Cheryl Bush.

"We do not want to cause panic, however we want to ensure the safety of children and the community," Bush said. "RCMP are encouraging parents to continue to review stranger awareness and common safety rules with their children at home."

Kamloops therapist Bruce Stevens said he sees the letters as a stage in a disturbing progression.

"I think the next stage is this person trying to find available children to act out these fantasies," he said.

Students, meanwhile, are being reminded about stranger dangers in their classrooms, and notes have been sent home to parents.

Some parents said they are taking unusual precautions. One couple has taken to walking around their child's school whenever they can -- a kind of home-spun surveillance.

Others who might have waited in the car are now picking up their children directly from the classroom door.
