Investigators from the Surrey, B.C., RCMP detachment spent several hours Sunday morning canvassing the area around an elementary school after a stabbing.

Police were called around 1:30 a.m. about a disturbance at Beaver Creek Elementary School on 123A Street.

They arrived to find a man in his early twenties with serious stab wounds on a lawn across the street from the school.

Insp. Dave Attfield says it's possible there was a fight between a group of youths on the school grounds.

"He was conscious when he was found but losing consciousness quickly," Attfield said.

The victim provided some information to police before being transported to hospital with serious injuries.
