A Surrey, B.C. man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death in front of her coworkers two years ago has pleaded guilty.
Manmeet Singh is accused of killing his estranged wife Ravinder Bhangu at the office of the Sach Di Awaaz newspaper in July 2011.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed Monday that Singh had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the attack.
Police said Bhangu was dead from multiple stab wounds by the time they arrived. Her husband was arrested at the scene.
The next morning, the bilingual Punjabi and English newspaper ran an all-black front page with a message addressing the tragedy.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our deceased colleague and the family of our colleague,” it read.
One of Bhangu’s male coworkers also suffered several wounds trying to intervene. He was stitched up at hospital and released the same day.
Friends told CTV News that Bhangu moved to Canada from India two years before the murder, around the time of her marriage.
She’d been separated from Singh and living with her aunt for a few months before she was killed.
A sentencing hearing for Singh is scheduled for June 21.
