One woman is dead and a man is injured after a stabbing at an ethnic newspaper office in Surrey, B.C.
Police were called to the Sach Di Awaaz newspaper office at 8120 128 St. in Newton around noon.
One man is in custody, but police say he is not cooperating and refusing to give his name. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in to investigate.
Investigators say the injured man was trying to help the female victim. He suffered cuts and scrapes in the attack, and has been released from hospital after receiving stitches.
Police are not releasing the name or age of the victim, but friends have identified her as Ravinder Kaur Bhanju.
Staff at the traditional dance school where she was a volunteer told CTV News that she was 23 years old and had moved to Canada from India about two years ago.
Friends say the victim was married but had recently left her husband.
