Mounties in Surrey, B.C., are investigating after a man was shot to death at a local fast food restaurant on Saturday night.

The shooting happened inside the McDonald's at the intersection of 110th Avenue and Scott Road shortly after 6 p.m., following a confrontation between two men near the rest room.

Employees rushed to help the victim, but he died before ambulance paramedics arrived. Police have not confirmed his identify.

"The staff at McDonald's and the management have been very impressive and helpful throughout what must have been a very difficult situation," Insp. Dave Attfield said.

Emergency response officers, dog teams and the Air One helicopter scoured the area but were unable to track a suspect. Investigators are now in the process of reviewing store surveillance video.

The suspect is described as an unshaven man, possibly dark-skinned, who was wearing dark clothing.

Attfield said the victim and suspect were connected to one another, but that it is too early to say whether the homicide is linked to gangs, drugs or organized crime.

"It didn't appear to be a random act," he said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the RCMP Integrated Homicide Investigative Team tip line at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
