Mounties in Burnaby, B.C., are looking for a man after a sexual assault and abduction that started in Squamish and ended in Burnaby.

Police say a 39-year-old woman was sleeping in her car around midnight Friday at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre in the Sea-to-Sky community when a man forced his way into her car.

"She was going to visit a friend -- so being a weary traveller she decided to be a responsible person and do the right thing and pull off the road," Cpl. Brenda Gresiuk told ctvbc.ca.

"It was a well lit parking lot. She was asleep when he forced his way inside and that's where the nightmare started. It's a horrifying and traumatic incident."

The woman was held against her will for more than four hours before being driven to Burnaby, where the man fled with her vehicle.

He was caught on video surveillance while using the victim's ATM card at a North Vancouver Bank of Montreal branch.

The Burnaby RCMP is working in conjunction with the Squamish detachment to locate the man.

Gresiuk says police are sounding the alarm for people travelling on their own who might do the same thing.

"Everyone at some time has pulled over when fatigued and we think that's the right thing to do. This is the worst nightmare for any parent - any person - it's just terrifying."

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at (604)294-7922 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222-TIPS.
