A forest fire that has been burning west of Clinton since August 1st has now forced dozens of residents from their homes.

Just before 10 last night, the Squamish Lillooet regional district ordered people in an area west of Clinton to get out.

"The last few days it really exploded, it was just like a little A-bomb going off up there," resident Clarke Allen told CTV News.

The Kelly Lake forest fire has doubled in size to nearly sixty square kilometres and is now threatening ranches and resorts in the Arden Park and Pear Lake areas north of Pavilion.

Affected residents and visitors are being told to check in at a reception centre at the Clinton elementary school.

Cause of the Kelly Lake fire is still not known and the Forest Service says the blaze remains uncontained despite the work of 49 firefighters and seven helicopters.
