Whalley 8, Layritz 10

It was "too little too late" for Whalley, who tried to stage a late-game comeback Friday afternoon against Layritz on Day 7 of the B.C. Little League Championship at Justin Morneau Field.

Whalley was down 9-0 at the bottom of the fourth inning but scored seven runs in the fifth, led by Saylor Gray, who hit a homer with two men on base.

Layritz would add another to their lead to halt Whalley's comeback attempt and salvage the game 10-8.

The win clinches a spot in the semi-finals for Layritz, who end their round robin action with a 3-3 record. Layritz will finish fourth heading into this weekend's playoff rounds.

Whalley is tied with Hastings for second. Both have a 4-2 record in round robin games.

Whalley defeated Hastings 14-4 on Tuesday, giving them the advantage and standings tie-breaker. Whalley will finish in second place and Hastings in third.

Little Mountain remains undefeated and will finish in first place after round robin play.

Friday's game saw seven hits by Whalley and two errors, while Layritz had nine hits and one error.

Little Mountain 7, Trail 5

Little Mountain held on to a perfect round robin record beating Trail 7-5 Friday night at the B.C. Little League Championship.

Little Mountain had 12 hits and one error in the game, while Trail had seven hits and two errors.

Little Mountain appears to be the team to beat in the tournament. They finished first in the standings with a 6-0 record, followed by Whalley, Hastings and Layritz, who all advance to the playoff rounds beginning Saturday.

New Westminster 9, West Vancouver 5

The host team of the B.C. Little League Championship gave the home crowd something to cheer about finishing their tournament with a 9-5 win over West Vancouver.

New Westminster had eight hits and one error, while West Vancouver finished the game with 12 hits and no errors.

Neither team moves on the the playoff rounds.

Saturday marks the beginning of the elimination game, with Little Mountain taking on Layritz at 1 p.m. and Whalley playing Hastings at 3 p.m. Both games are at Justin Morneau Field.
