A woman suspected of drunk driving in the crash that killed a popular young softball player has had her licence suspended for 12 months.

The year-long suspension was handed down Tuesday to the 34-year-old suspect in the May 3 death of Kassandra Kaulius, 22.

Kaulius's red BMW was broadsided by a company vehicle from Precision Restoration in Surrey, and she died on the scene. Witnesses at the scene said the driver of the van appeared drunk, was unable to talk and could barely walk.

Last week, CTV News revealed that the suspect was allowed to regain her driver's licence after just a 24-hour roadside suspension.

Current laws allow a 21-day grace period before a three-month driving prohibition is imposed, but B.C. Solicitor General Shirley Bond has ordered an immediate review of the legislation.

Surrey RCMP are still investigating the crash, and say that a criminal charge of impaired driving causing death is possible.

The driver has also been fired from her job for alleged drinking and driving and using the company vehicle for personal purposes.
