Another day of sub-zero weather and roads resembling skating rinks has prompted public school closures in many Fraser Valley communities.
All public schools in the Fraser-Cascade district, Chilliwack and Mission are closed today, along with Matsqui, Barrowtown and Upper Sumas elementaries in Abbotsford -- and all classes at the University of the Fraser Valley.
Arctic outflow warnings remain in effect through the valley, Whistler and Howe Sound, while coastal and inland sections of the North and Central Coast, Haida Gwaii and northern Vancouver Island are already bracing for the next storm.
Warnings have been posted in those regions as strong winds and a dump of snow is expected by tomorrow morning.
Power cut to thousands
Residents in nearly two-thousand homes in the Ioco and Belcarra areas are making do with cold breakfasts this morning.
Power has been out to that region since around 2 a.m. and Hydro had hoped to have the lights back on before daybreak -- but now says it will be 9 a.m., at the earliest, before the outage is repaired.
Crews were also out early this morning removing downed lines from across Highway One, through Burnaby.
Westbound lanes of the major commuter link were closed at Kensington at around five a.m. and traffic was finally moving again just before seven.
