B.C. residents will have more time to get their votes in for the referendum on the harmonized sales tax because the postal dispute has delayed the delivery of ballots.
Acting Chief Electoral Officer Craig James has authorized a two-week extension for the referendum deadline.
It means voters now have until Aug. 5 to get their ballots back to Elections BC, instead of July 22.
People who don't get a voting package in the mail will also have an extra two weeks to ask for one, with that deadline being extended to July 22 from July 8.
Elections BC says all registered voters should get their voting packages in the mail by July 7.
Voters are being asked whether they want to keep the 12-per cent HST or go back to the combination of the five-per cent GST and seven-per cent provincial sales tax.
