One person is dead and three others are in hospital after a two-vehicle crash closed the Trans-Canada Highway west of Kamloops, B.C.

First responders were called to the collision scene near the community of Savona, south of Kamloops Lake, before 11 a.m. Thursday.

One person died as a result of the crash and three others were taken to hospital with "unknown injuries," according to a statement from the Tk'emlúps Rural RCMP detachment.

The Trans-Canada Highway remained closed to traffic in both directions as of 3 p.m., with police warning travellers to avoid the area until further notice.

"No further information is available at this time," the RCMP statement said.

In August 2024, a single-vehicle crash on the same stretch of highway east of Savona killed a Metro Vancouver woman who was riding in a pickup truck that rolled over into the ditch.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Both occupants were from Port Coquitlam, police said at the time.

Anyone who witnessed Thursday's collision or who has video related to the crash is asked to contact the Tk'emlúps RCMP detachment at 250-314-1800.
