Driver dead after collision with construction vehicle in Saanich, B.C.

A driver is dead after colliding with a construction vehicle in Saanich Friday night.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Quadra Street and Tattersall Drive, the Saanich Police Department said in a news release Saturday.

When officers arrived, they found the crashed vehicle with its driver, the sole occupant, unresponsive inside.

"Despite the efforts of our officers, Saanich Fire, and paramedics, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene," police said.

The crash happened on the east side of the intersection, which remained closed to traffic as police investigated Saturday.

The investigation is ongoing and the deceased driver's next of kin has been notified, police said.
