Vancouver Canucks forward and NHL leading scorer Henrik Sedin took home the Hart Trophy at the NHL Awards on Wednesday night in Las Vegas.

The trophy is awarded to "the player adjudicated to be the most valuable to his team."

Sedin's Hart Trophy win marks the first time in franchise history a Canucks player has captured the award.

Sedin beat out 2009-10 finalists Pittsburg Penguins sensation Sidney Crosby and Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin.

The high-scoring Swede led the league with 112 points (29-83-112) in 2009-10, winning the Art Ross Trophy. It was another franchise first for the Canucks.

The 2009-10 season also saw Sedin become the all-time assist leader for the Canucks, passing Trevor Linden for the title, and he overthrew Pavel Bure for the single season points record.

The original Hart Trophy was donated to the NHL by Dr. David A. Hart, father of Cecil Hart, former manager-coach of the Montreal Canadiens in 1924.
