B.C.'s opposition party is crying foul after a cabinet minister alluded to an NDP MLA getting shot in the head.
In an interview with CIFM and B100 radio in Kamloops, Minister of Social Development Kevin Krueger slammed health critic Adrian Dix for his complaints about funding for a sterilization unit at Royal Inland Hospital.
"If there ever was a guy that shouldn't put his head up to get it shot off, as the soldiers refer to it, it's Adrian Dix," Krueger said.
The metaphorical quip comes after last week's shooting in Arizona, where six people were killed and a member of Congress seriously wounded.
Dix says the timing is upsetting.
"I think it makes it worse. But I think it's not just this week but every week that we have to be respectful to one another," he told CTV News.
"I think that it would never be appropriate to talk about shooting anyone in the head. I don't think that's ever been an appropriate way to talk about things."
Krueger sent Dix an email of apology after he was unable to reach him by phone, and admits his words were poorly chosen.
