A retired RCMP officer has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of his common-law wife.
Keith Gregory Wiens, 56, was taken into custody Tuesday morning after police received a report that his 55-year-old partner had been shot dead at the couple's Penticton home.
Cpl. Annie Linteau would not confirm whether the report came from within the residence, but said Wiens was arrested without incident.
He appeared in Penticton provincial court Wednesday morning and has been remanded in custody.
The former RCMP member retired from the force in 2001.
The deceased's name has been withheld at the request of her family. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
